Oceans of Opportunities: International Networking Program 

With promising natural resources and an experienced offshore and maritime supply chain, Canada's marine renewable energy sector is an emerging market to watch. At the same time, market intelligence and insight from more mature marine renewables markets at these earlier stages is critical for building a thriving and sustainable Canadian marine renewable energy industry.  
 
Benefit from the experience of international businesses and capitalize on targeted networking opportunities with MRC's Ocean of Opportunities Program at the 2024 Marine Renewables Canada Conference. Activities will include an International Roundtable and Lunch, as well as an organized B2B program for international delegates and MRC members.

MRC Member Sessions 

Following the success of last year’s Member Sessions, Marine Renewables Canada (MRC) is offering another round of pre-conference training and information sessions this year. These are designed to support members’ needs and business efforts and will provide MRC members with knowledge, insight, and practical advice that can help them with project planning and development, business development and growth, and relationship-building. MRC Member Sessions are complimentary with conference registration and exclusive to MRC members only. 

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm | Increasing Inclusivity in the Marine Renewable Energy Sector: Engagement and Partnerships with Indigenous Communities and Businesses 

Through this session, MRC members will receive thoughtful advice and information for increasing Indigenous involvement in marine renewable energy projects. Attendees will gain insight on how to develop meaningful, respectful, and productive relationships with Indigenous communities and businesses.

Interested to learn more about what’s being done to ensure Canada capitalizes on the development of offshore wind by maximizing local supplier and workforce participation? This session will provide MRC members with an early inside-look and update on projects such as the Atlantic Canada Wind Energy Supply Chain Assessment along with applied training programs and strategies to enable Nova Scotians to fully participate in the sector.

SESSION 1 | From Coast to Coast: Industry Highlights in Canada’s Marine Renewable Energy Sector  

Marine renewable energy offers great potential as a clean energy resource that can accelerate net zero goals and advance economic development opportunities in Canada. Over the past year, advancements have taken place in offshore wind, tidal, wave, river current energy, and green hydrogen projects that are contributing towards industry growth and long-term sustainability. Opportunities for marine renewables are growing in Canada, but there are challenges still to be addressed to establish a thriving sector. This session will include project updates from across Canada, insight on initiatives to help advance the sector, and an engaging discussion on what’s needed for marine renewable energy to fuel Canada’s green energy transition.

SESSION 2 | The Power of Indigenous Partnerships in Accelerating Marine Renewable Energy Development Discover the powerful role Indigenous partnerships are playing to accelerate renewable energy growth and how they can help unlock future marine renewable energy opportunities. Through firsthand success stories, this session will explore the critical role of Indigenous partnerships in achieving economic reconciliation and fostering collaborative development.  Get insight from Indigenous leaders on how meaningful, early engagement and partnerships can help drive innovation and inform future projects, ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth in the marine renewable energy sector.

Trends in the global market outlook for fixed and floating developments, project economics, capacity forecasts, and supply chain demand all have an impact on how Canada’s offshore wind market will grow and evolve. This session will offer insight on these key trends and factors, providing market intelligence for companies that are interested in engaging in international markets, and important context for those working to build Canada’s offshore wind sector.

By sharing lessons learned and exploring innovative co-existence initiatives in other jurisdictions, this session aims to foster a deeper understanding of how to navigate the complexities of activities in the marine environment and ensure the successful integration of marine renewables where all users can thrive.

SESSION 5 | A New Era for Tidal Energy  

Tidal energy continues to show promise as a resource and sector that can play an important role in Canada’s clean energy future. Over the past year there have been significant milestones and initiatives underway to advance tidal energy in Canada and internationally. This session will provide a deep dive on what is working well to advance the sector and the solutions and new innovations needed to address challenges and advance the industry.

This session will explore the opportunities, challenges, and strategies for grid integration locally, regionally and nationally including the potential for interregional collaboration and how to navigate the complexities of incorporating a new energy resource into Canada’s long-term energy transition.
